You've heard of a pub crawl, but have you ever heard of a "grub" crawl? Instead of moving from bar to bar, participants move from restaurant to restaurant, and that's what guests will be doing when Bon Appétit Magazine brings its Grub Crawl, the acclaimed on-the-move food and spirits tour, to the Miami Design District on Saturday, November 2.

The idea behind the food crawl came about when the team at Bon Appétit realized an important element of the food festivals was missing - the actual restaurant.

"So much of going to the restaurant is the ambience, the atmosphere, the lighting, the music, the look, the waiters, and all of that is never present at a food festival," said Adam Rapoport, editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit. "So we thought why not bring the food festival to the restaurant?"

And that is exactly what the Grub Crawl will do. The daytime portion of the movable food festival will take guests to several of the Design District's most notable restaurants including MC Kitchen, Oak Tavern, Harry's Pizzeria and The Cypress Room. During their time at the restaurant, crawlers will be able to try signature dishes and drinks, interact with the chefs, and see live cooking demonstrations.

"We're encouraging and inspiring the chefs to really get involved to make their stop on the crawl as interesting as possible," said Rapoport. "We want to offer them unique, behind-the-scenes access to the restaurants."

The Miami Grub Crawl is the final event in a series of five, preceded by Crawls in Los Angeles, Charleston, Chicago, and New York City. When deciding on cities, the Bon Appétit looked for locations with thriving restaurant scenes and popular dining neighborhoods, which is why they were drawn to the Design District.

"In the last several years the Design District has developed its own character and has become a destination in and of itself," added Rapoport. "Here's a place you can park your car and walk about and there are cool vibes, restaurants, shops, bars, so for us it was a no brainer selecting the Design District as one of the destinations in Miami."

The crawl kicks off at MC Kitchen at noon on November 2, where guests will be able to dine on Fig Pizzetta and Pear Fiocchi prepared by Executive Chef Dena Marino, who is very much looking forward to the event.

"What an amazing opportunity to be part of Bon Appétit's first Miami Grub Crawl," said Marino. "We are excited to share the gems of Midtown and the Design District with such a leader in food - Bon Appétit.  Guests are in for a delicious journey!"
